Hopscotch 2011 Update

September 9, 2011 by Emily McCrary in Blog, Festival with 0 Comments

Hello, all. Greetings from the streets of Raleigh, NC.

I just spoke with Maria Albani (what a sweetheart!) and am getting ready to meet with BRAIDS. I’ve stopped for a moment at The Morning Times to catch my breath and let the sweat dry into my clothes. It makes a crust.

Last night was dichotomous. I started at Five Star where we saw Yair Yona, The Black Twig Pickers, Frank Farfield, and William Tyler–all masters of stringed instruments. Had deep conversations and swilled brandy. Then I hopped on over to the Lincoln Theatre to catch the Black Lips, and maybe a few diseases too. I had to find a different way out than how I had come in because someone had stirred up a sea of broken beer bottles and vomit. But I had a great time! Those guys are nothing but energy and skin.

As with any music festival, we’ve made some discoveries–most excited about Luego, whom we caught at Tir Na Nog a few hours ago. Snapped some good photos of those guys and grabbed a record. Download their LPs for free here.

Much much more to come–photos, video, and words all from Hopscotch 2011. Tonight I’m seeing Annuals, Swans, and BRAIDS.
