We’re going to Hopscotch, Mom!
Got my oil changed and I’m packing my bags to hit the road for Hopscotch.
We’re getting starting first thing tomorrow morning when we sit down with Yair Yona, and we’re not planning on sleeping until Sunday. (If you do find me passed out in the back of Slim’s, make sure you wake me up in time to see Vivian Girls on Friday night.)
This will be Red Thought Media’s second year, just like the festival’s, so we’re rolling in with the pride and extra deodorant of veterans. In the spirit of our sophomore year, let’s shake off the anxious dust of freshmandom and look confidently into the eyes of Hopscotch 2011.
Thoughts on Hopscotch pt. Deux
1. I’ve only seen Yair Yona wearing sunglasses. I hope this doesn’t mean that he’s missing eyes.
2. Over the course of the weekend, we’ll be sitting down with The Rosebuds, Beach Fossils, Yair Yona, Maria Albani (of Schooner and Organos) and BRAIDS.
3. Lots of sandals and easy dresses for day parties. Heels for the shows at night. I painted all my fingernails purple except for one–whoever figures out which one wins a chance to smell Grayson Currin’s hair.
4. Find us at the day parties too: Slim’s and Tir Na Nog on Friday, The Lincoln Theatre on Saturday (and Slim’s again too–(American Aquarium!))–among others, through which we’ll be downily wandering.
5. Thinking about attending the Helping Hands Charity Basketball game–heard musicians dunk like gorillas.
6. The day parties are always sweaty.
7. Nightfall means I can more easily hide my sweat stains, so come see us at the Black Lips, Empress Hotel, The Old Ceremony, Mandolin Orange, and of course, The Flaming Lips. Quieter selections include Prayers & Tears and the Annuals.
8. We love Artist and Author Series at the Raleigh City Museum. Maybe this year I won’t be distracted by the panelists. (Has anyone heard whether or not Patterson Hood’s beard likes me back?)
9. I am going to hammer eight cappuccinos from The Morning Times on the first day.
